March 2023 Meeting
March 2023 Club Meeting
Our Saturday March 11 meeting at the Johnson County Extension Office (Iowa City) began with a potluck at noon. Thereafter, there was a business meeting at 1 PM led by VP Heather Harroun following this agenda. Shelly and Darrin were unable to attend in person. We wish Shelly a quick return to good health following her bout with COVID. Please send her your best wishes! Thirty-four members attended the meeting, 17 in person in Iowa City and 7 via the Zoom link kindly provided by Nancy Carlisle. Please look for an March 13th email from Nancy; it has a link to the Zoom recording made during the meeting. The meeting concluded with a very informative American Iris Society Webinar #4 PowerPoint presentation by Bonnie Nichols on "Novelty Irises - Space Agers". Thank you, Nancy Rash, for providing these photos: Nancy noted that "we learned about iris with horns – violet horns on the tall bearded Angler Fish iris. Zombie Zoo was a personal favorite. I had no idea that iris had horns and spoons! The Space Age Irises have horns that extend from the end of the beard. The horn is a spear like appendage that emerges from the fall at the end of the beard. The tip of the horn is sometimes flat which is referred to as a spoon or may be split and laced making a flounce which looks like little petals." Anybody who would like to view this presentation can reach it here. Meeting minutes were recorded by club secretary Cari Rusnak. Thank you, Cari! |
